For those without the requisite time, fitness level, or equipment, the relatively flat section of the Pihea Vista Trail overlooking the Kalalau Valley provides a great 'cliffs-notes' version of the world famous Kalalau Trail.
Park at the Pu'u O Kila Lookout at the end of Hwy 550 past Waimea Canyon and immediately in front of you there will be a wide red clay and mud ridge that takes you in an arc around the backside of the incredibly beautiful Kalalau Valley - the crystal blue Pacific Ocean some 3,750 feet below.
Follow the trail to the Pihea Vista Junction for a nice, easy 2 mile round trip hike on mostly flat ground interspersed with short inclines and descents with the roots of the ohi'a tree serving as helpful ladder rungs and balance points.
The parking lot and hike can be crowded so be sure to arrive super early to ensure you don't miss this truly world calss short and easy hike!!!
