A favorite work-out for hard core locals, the Koko Head Trail comprises some 1,048 'stairs' up an old WWII tramway built to service a radio transmitter on the summit of Koko Head.
Often referred to as the 'Stairmaster from Hell' (in sharp contrast with Oahu's equally famous, but unfortunately illegal hike - 'Stairway to Heaven') hikers are sure to get a great leg workout on their way to absolutely stunning views of Hanauma Bay, the Kaiwi Coastline, Hawaii Kai, and Diamond Head. On clear days, Molokai will be clearly visible across the Kaiwi Channel.
General Info & Disclaimer: Always hike at your own risk. Bring plenty of water as the weather on Oahu can change rapidly from cool and overcast to a virtual sauna. Hats, sunglasses, and environmentally safe sunscreen are always wise decisions, as is appropriate rain gear. Never hike alone and let others know of your plans. If you have any doubt about your ability to safely complete any hikes mentioned on this blog, DON'T DO THEM. Hiking is an inherently risky activity and Roots & Branches, LLC assumes no liability of any kind. Mahalo!
